The Road - John Hillcoat film

Thinking of going to see the movie The Road, don't.

I made that mistake, already.

It was utterly hideous, you know it was a good movie, but utterly utterly hideous. I had thought wrongly that it would be mostly a moving story about the relationship between the father and son. I had not expected the amount of truly horrifying cannibal gore.

Ah, hm, you probably didn't see the trailer before going to see the film in that case. I'm not sure why anyone would choose to see it if they'd already seen the trailer. Even more this applies to "The Island", which is in competition with "The Road" for most depressing film on earth at the moment.

No, I totally didn't see the trailer, foolish I know. I did read a rave review however, which didn't mention the cannibalism bits. The Island is that a new one, or the 2005 Ewan McGregor one?

The Island seems to be a Russian film shot entirely in the dark with people who are more depressed than is humanly imaginable and living in colder and wetter conditions than anyone ever invented before. Apparently it has won some awards. I just knew there was a secret competition for Most Depressing Film of the Decade.

I advise sticking to The Railway Children and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
